It is by now well-known that sitting a lot is bad for your health. This is why companies and organisations are increasingly interested in dynamic working. But how do you put this “dynamic working” into practice?
Afwisseling in werkhouding
It is important that sitting can be easily alternated with other working postures. First of all, choose a posture that suits the task, choose the appropriate device (monitor, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and use the right tools. For example, if you need to read a document, it is best to do this from a large screen or paper rather than your smartphone. If you have a work meeting with a colleague, standing or walking is a good way to do it. Did you know that brain activity is greater when walking than when sitting? So walking meetings are even more effective.
Dynamic tools
The Dutch Health Council states “that by taking into account the promotion of physical activity in the design of the physical environment, a lasting change in exercise behaviour could be achieved”.
However, our working environment is often designed to encourage sitting. The challenge is to furnish the office with different workstations that encourage movement and variety in sitting, standing (or using a stand support) and walking. You can use various dynamic aids for this, such as ergonomic stools, desk bikes, balance balls, anti-fatigue mats, balance boards, desk treadmills, standing aids and dynamic office chairs.
With a smart set-up, you will be imperceptibly encouraged to work in a naturally moving way.
